چکیده

The lipid composition of a membrane fraction from bovine adrenal cortex was determined. This preparation has the capacity to bind adrenocorticotropic hormone and is enriched in adenylate cyclase and 5'-nucleotidase. The adrenal plasma membranes have a significantly higher lipid content (54.8%) than bovine liver plasma membranes and a surprisingly low proportion of this lipid is cholesterol (4.2%). The phospholipids comprise 76.4% of the total lipids and their composition if very similar to that of bovine liver membranes with the exception of sphingomyelin which comprises only 4.5% of the phospholipids in the adrenal preparation.

Interaction of poly(ethylene glycol)-conjugated phospholipids with supported lipid membranes and their influence on protein adsorption

We studied real-time interaction between poly(ethylene glycol)-conjugated phospholipids (PEG-lipids) and a supported lipid membrane by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy to understand dynamic behaviors of PEG-lipids on living cell membranes. Supported lipid membranes formed on a hydrophobic surface were employed as a model of living cell membrane. We prepared three kinds of PEG-lipids...

Selective induction of tyrosine hydroxylase by cell-cell contact in bovine adrenal chromaffin cells is mimicked by plasma membranes

As a first step towards the identification and purification of the molecule(s) that are involved in cell contact-mediated tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) induction in cultures of bovine adrenal chromaffin cells, we have prepared plasma membranes (PM) from bovine adrenal medulla and tested their ability to mimick cell contact-mediated TH induction in low density chromaffin cultures. PM indeed induced ...

Receptor for thyrotropin-releasing hormone in plasma membranes of bovine anterior pituitary gland. Role of lipids.

The receptor for thyrotropin-releasing hormone has been located in the plasma membranes of bovine anterior pituitary gland. Treatment of membranes with phospholipase A, phospholipase C, or digitonin or addition of lysophosphatidylcholine diminishes or completely destroys the ability of membranes to bind 3H-labeled thyrotropin-releasing hormone. Phospholipase D was without effect. These reductio...

Functions and interrelationships of different classes of plasma lipoproteins.

Lipids and Their Functions in Human Physiology.-Plasma lipoproteins transport the biologically important lipid compounds: triglycerides, phospholipids, cholesterol, and cholesteryl esters. Insight into the function of plasma lipoproteins may be obtained, in part, from available information on the physiologic functions of these major classes of lipids. Briefly these functions include the followi...

Effects of selective estrogen receptor modulators on plasma membrane estrogen receptors and catecholamine synthesis and secretion in cultured bovine adrenal medullary cells.

We previously reported the occurrence and function of plasma membrane estrogen receptors in cultured bovine adrenal medullary cells. Here we report the effects of raloxifene and tamoxifen, selective estrogen receptor modulators, on plasma membrane estrogen receptors and catecholamine synthesis and secretion in these cells. Raloxifene caused dual effects on the specific binding of [(3)H]17β-estr...
